Streamlining Operations at Siemens

Siemens Gamesa, a leader in the global renewable energy sector, operates an around-the-clock wind turbine factory in Hull, employing 750 staff members. To better manage shift patterns and HR requirements, Siemens Gamesa sought a bespoke digital solution and requiring an intuitive UX design.

I worked alongside Sauce Consultants, developing the visual identity of the new product while they built the code that would run it all. Our collaboration began with addressing their primary HR challenge: managing overtime.

Working closely with Siemens Gamesa and the user research they provided, we identified the need for a scalable, real-time system that was both accessible and customisable, whilst remaining easy to use and intuitive for team leaders. We created the MyTime time and attendance system, featuring a user-friendly portal on desktop for HR personnel and shift leaders to update staff information, alongside a mobile app for employees to track their working hours.

The app was a success and is still in use today. The original design system is still in place and has allowed both Siemens and Sauce to expand the app's capabilities allowing it to handle other HR tasks, including staff absence and holiday requests. The ease of use has streamlined the workflow for the personnel in the facility and the data provided by the app has allowed Siemens to implement a bonus system for their employees.
